Women Supporting Women

International Women’s Day is always a significant date, it provides such a great opportunity to champion the achievements of women around the world, as well as highlighting what desperately still needs to be done in the ongoing fight for women’s rights and equality.

We can all get involved. Whether it’s shopping women-owned businesses or simply spending more time with the women in your life.

With this year’s theme for International Women’s Day being #ChooseToChallenge, we want to listen to women who speak honestly and candidly about their passions, opportunities and challenges that face them. We recently collaborated with a Floral Photographer Fanny Cohen to turn one of her stunning images into a dress print. We believe that all work should be credited and it is important to highlight anyone we take inspiration from our admire. We spoke to @fanceebee who’s floral photography is hugely inspirational to us about the collaboration and her journey as a female artist.

With Ethereal London’s inspiration coming from the beauty of the natural world and the romantic dreamscapes it inspires, the affinity between Ethereal and @fanceebee’s work was too obvious to ignore. After discovering Fanny on Instagram, we were obsessed! The passion that exudes from every frame, mirrored our own and the collaboration was born.

“I was honoured when Annie Holt, the founder of Ethereal London reached out to me for a collaboration because her brand has a beautiful, timeless, and elegant feel to it and I thought it was a perfect fit with my work.” Says Fanny.

With an Arts degree and a minor in Photography. While Art and Photography were always part of her life, she never shared her work publicly. “Family and friends were the only ones who knew about my passion for photography since they were often my subjects; with the emergence of social media, I had to find new subjects and that is how my ongoing Flower Photography series began.” Says Fanny.

Fanny loves everything about the process of photographing flowers and creating a mood and feeling with them. Here she talks a little more about the process, “It always starts with the light; I usually use natural window light for all my photographs so each image will be different.  Next comes the beautiful flowers and their placement in the light; I use all types of flowers in all their stages,

I especially love to work with flowers when they are starting to fade as that is when their uniqueness emerges and they truly become ‘one of a kind’.

Once I feel I have captured something I love, I start the editing process and add the final touches.” Much aligned with Ethereal London’s purpose, Fanny captures beauty in natural environments, she believes her most important tool is her imagination.

Fanny Cohen focuses on floral photography and watercolour creations, always having her camera by her side but wishing she could take photographs with her eyes. Fanny graduated from the University of Miami

@fanceebee Serenade print on our new Luna Dress Coming soon

“Fanny’s print ‘Serenade’ is mesmerising. The image draws out beautiful shapes and colour combinations.  All of Fanny’s work is bursting with energy, and I wanted to capture that same energy in my work, having the energy flow in an Ethereal dress. Her one of a kind approach reflects what we are also trying to achieve with our collections” Says Annie.

Fanny has many beautiful prints, all unique to one another – whether that be the flower itself, the range or combination of colours, or simply the different stages of a flowers’ life. We asked Fanny what her favourite print is, “I love all of them!  I only share the images I love so if you’re seeing one of my pieces, it’s because it is a favourite.”

Beyond her love for floral photography and watercolour creations, Fanny says she is most proud of her children, and that seeing them grow and flourish will always be her greatest joy and achievement.

“It is so important for women to lift each other up because we are all in this together; by supporting, inspiring, and encouraging each other, we reach the greatest heights of personal and professional achievements.” Says Fanny.

A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world. From challenge comes change, so let’s all choose to challenge.
